MATCH HOME TO ASHTON BOYS 27/04/08

In a game against our bogey side in recent seasons and tournaments we just went out looking for a marked improvement on our match form as the boys have been training really well in recent weeks.

A TEAM GAME

We started in good form taking the game to Ashton straight from the off. Eli had a good run and won us a penalty which Owen stepped up to take with an assured look on his face only to hit the post and see it saved by the keeper. We kept the pressure on with Kerion and Lewis going close as we kept on pushing for the goal we deserved for the way the boy’s were battling. Our defence at times was not being tested which allowed Harry to push on and get a great strike away which was just wide in one of the best half’s of football I have seen us play. Brandon had just one comfortable save to make. 0-0 at half time (we should have been winning 6-1 but not to be).

Second half

Ashton start the stronger and forced Brandon into early save and from his big goal kick, Callum is in on goal only to fire just wide (not our day in front of goal as chance after chance goes missing) A brilliant run by Eli results in a corner for Fry’s as his shot takes a touch on it’s way through. Ashton then force their own corner and in a smash and grab raid manage to force the ball home after a goal mouth scramble1-0 to Ashton against run of play. We keep plugging away but chance after chance just goes begging for us and Ashton win 1-0.

B TEAM MATCH

Started well both with sides going for the win. Ashton force an early corner but it is well defended and we go on the attack. Frys attack and Josh James fires a left foot shot just wide. Now Ashton hit back on the attack forcing Rhys into great save. Rhys is now the keeper who is being kept busy but he is up to the task of keeping us in the game. George then goes on a good run and passes to Dan who just couldn’t get the right connection on the shot. We are now pushing forward and a good run by Josh James, using both feet, to cut and twist in side before finding Jacob with a good pass. Jacob takes it on and has a great strike well saved by the keeper. First half finishes 0-0 and the boys are playing well.

Second half

We start the half in good form with Dan forcing an early corner which Dan Bowden takes and their keeper claims as it comes in to box. Frys are doing a good job of stopping the Ashton throw ins going anywhere. Great chance from Frys sees the keeper come out and Dan Wetmore lobs the ball over him but Dan Bowden just fails to add the finishing touch as Scott passes out and a missed chance again. Jacob goes on a run and is taken out in the box and a penalty is awarded. Jacob gets up and dusts himself down to strike the ball into the bottom corner 1-0 to Fry’s. We then start to move the ball around really well and look in total control of the game until Rhys has a rush of blood and brings down an Ashton striker in the box for a penalty which they convert 1-1 and that’s how the game finishes.

Overall the boys played really well and I am proud of the way we controlled the game and matched Ashton who are one of the strongest teams in the league at the moment. This has been one of the best performances of the season and shows that we are making progress and looking good for next season and the summer tournaments.
